Work to start on Wimbledon hotels

A 140-bed hotel is to be built in Wimbledon town centre.

Merton Council’s planning committee granted planning permission in July to an application submitted by Hermes Investment Management to replace the Slug and Lettuce bar on Hartfield Road.

The two-storey building will be replaced with a seven-storey construction containing the hotel and a ground floor restaurant.

Despite its popularity with tourists, the town centre is considered to lack the required
hotel capacity.

This is the second hotel planned for Wimbledon. Whitbread won planning permission to build an eight-storey, 176-bed Premier Inn hotel on The Broadway, in August 2016.
