Merton triumphs at business awards
Merton Council has won the Best Small Business-Friendly Procurement to Support Local Trade award.
The prize celebrates council initiatives which provide small businesses with access to public sector contracts.
Merton Council has introduced a new purchasing system, which impressed the judges; it allows small taxi firms to bid for private services for children with special educational needs and vulnerable adults.
The borough previously also won Best Programme of Support for Small Businesses and Best All-Round Small Business Borough.
Councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of the council, said: “We have long recognised that small businesses play a crucial role in Merton’s local economy and we are determined to make it as easy as possible for them to work with the council.
“We’re delighted to have won this award for our new procurement system which has brought many benefits, both for small businesses and for the council.”
The Small Business-Friendly Awards 2017 were organised by the London Region of The Federation of Small Businesses and London Councils to celebrate positive projects that have impacted local businesses.
