Merton schools score top marks in UK for GCSEs
GCSE students in the borough of Merton are the highest performing in the UK, according to figures released by the Department for Education.
The recently published Progress 8 report measured strides taken by students between the end of Key Stage 2 and the end of Key Stage 4; schools in Merton scored the highest in the country across subjects including English, maths, sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages and three other approved qualifications.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for education, Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, credited the results to the borough’s commitment to improving education.
She said: “As a family friendly borough we have focused on improving the performance of all of our schools and building new classrooms and schools for the future, including planning a brand-new secondary in South Wimbledon.”
